RasenBallsport Leipzig is a highly capable and distinctive German football club, founded in 2009 when Red Bull Group acquired and restructured the fifth tier league team Markrantstedt, forming RB Leipzig. Due to the regulations of the German Football Association, sponsor names cannot appear in team names, so "RasenBall" was used instead of "Red Bull". In the 2016-2017 season, Leipzig won their first 13 consecutive games and ultimately ranked second in the Bundesliga. In the 2018-19 season, the team achieved third place in the Bundesliga. In the 2021-2022 season, Leipzig won their first ever FA Cup championship in team history. On August 13, 2023, Leipzig defeated Bayern 3-0 and won their first German Super Cup championship in team history.
